The Austin College baseball team squeaked out a 4-3 victory over Southwestern University on Thursday night in the opening round of the SCAC Championship. The 'Roos improved to 12-27 overall with the victory.
The 'Roos fell behind 2-0 in the second before getting on the board in the third when Travis Gibson scored on a wild pitch. The 'Roos tied things up in the sixth on an RBI single by Mason Leech, and took a 3-2 lead on an Austin Vaughan RBI double in the seventh.
Southwestern knotted things up in the eighth, but the 'Roos loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and got a walk off victory when Josh Coughennower scored on an infield error.
Marshall Korn had a strong performance on the mound in getting no decision, going 7.0 innings and striking out eight. Colt Herron earned the win, pitching 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Vaughan, Gibson, and Tyler Appelquist each had two hits in the victory.
