The Austin College baseball team split its doubleheader with nationally ranked Trinity University on Saturday, scoring the series opening upset by taking game one 4-2 before falling 9-4 in game two. The Tigers are ranked No. 10 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 11 by D3Baseball.com.

In game one, the 'Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Jeremy Halford drew a walk with the bases loaded, and then Austin Vaughan singled home a pair of runs. The lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth when Vaughan collected his third RBI of the game, plating Travis Gibson with a single.

Trinity would threaten in the bottom of the seventh, plating two runs, but Todd Takabuki earned the save by setting down three batters in order after coming on in relief of Marshall Korn. Korn earned the win, going 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on just three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Korn took a no hitter into the fifth inning.

Vaughan finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and Mason Leech went 2-for-3 with a run scored. The 'Roos also turned a triple play in the fifth, getting a line drive to shortstop and forcing the second and third outs at first and second.

In game two the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, and after the 'Roos got a run back in the second when Vaughan singled home Will Schommer, two more runs would cross the plate for the Tigers in the third to make it a 5-1 game. The 'Roos would get a sacrifice fly from Schommer and an RBI triple by Travis Gibson, his third triple of the season, to make it 5-3 heading into the fifth.

After a Trinity run in the sixth, the 'Roos got one more when Vaughan scored on an RBI by Tyler Appelquist. However, Trinity would add three more runs over the final two innings to make it a 9-4 final.

Vaughan went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Gibson finished 2-for-3 in the game. Blaine Tew took the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work.
