Three From 'Roo Swimming Earn CSC Academic All-District

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's swimmer Cody Dean and women's swimmers Liberty Chanin and Sammi Thiele have been selected as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, the organization has announced.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.

Dean, a junior from Keller, earned his Academic All-District recognition with a 3.64 grade-point-average as a biology major. He has been recognized as a Dean's List student, and a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. He also serves as a member of Austin College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Chanin, a senior from Irving, has earned multiple All-SCAC honors in the pool, including winning the 1650 freestyle at the 2022 SCAC Championships, and earned her Academic All-District recognition with a grade-point-average of 3.71 as a dual major in history and French.

Thiele, a junior from Keller, recently qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the 100 backstroke, which she won at the 2023 SCAC Championships, and was named the SCAC Elite 19 Award winner as the top women's swimming scholar-athlete in the conference. Thiele is a English major with a 3.91 grade-point-average.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid March.
