Chanin Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's swimmer Liberty Chanin.

Chanin, a junior from Irving, made history at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet when she became just the second Austin College women's swimmer to win an individual championship in program history. Chanin shattered the 'Roo women's swimming record in the 1650 freestyle on her way to earning the gold, coming in with a time of 17:42.90. That time makes her the first swimmer in Austin College women's program history to complete the event in under 18 minutes. She also became the first women's swimmer to capture an individual title since Lauren Wheeler in 2015, and was the first 'Roo to earn All-Conference in the 1650 free since previous record holder Marjory Gibson, who earned third place honors in 2007.

Modern Woodmen of America is proud to recognize and support the ongoing achievements of Austin College student-athletes. Their North Texas Region understands that the pursuit of excellence on and off the field creates a foundation for continued excellence after graduation.
