Navarro Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighing our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's cross country runner RJ Navarro.

Navarro, a sophomore from Buda, made history for Austin College last weekend when he established a new program record in the 5K, finishing with a time of 16:06 at the University of Texas-Dallas Invite. His effort was good for second place overall, and helped the 'Roo men's cross country program capture the first overall meet title for either the men or women since becoming a varsity NCAA Division III program in 2014. Navarro's time shattered the previous program mark by more than a minute, and earlier this week he was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week. That marks just the second time in program history, and the first time since 2014, that an Austin College men's cross country runner has earned that honor.
