Shell Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighing our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo football player Morris Shell.

Shell, a four-year letter winner from Irving, starred at linebacker for the 'Roos on his way to earning All-Southern Athletic Association recognition. Earlier this year, he was also named the SAA Defensive Player of the Week. Shell finished the season with 75 tackles, including 4.5 tackles-for-loss, and also had an interception and a fumble recovery. Over the course of his career, Shell made 210 tackles. Of those tackles, 17.0 were tackles-for-loss, and he also recovered four fumbles in his four seasons.

On top of being an All-Conference linebacker, Shell has played an integral role with the success of the 'Roo women's basketball team. Moving from the gridiron to the hardwood immediately following the completion of his season, Shell has served in a student-assistant/manager role for the nationally ranked women's basketball program. Not only does he assist on the bench during games, but he's also an active participant in practices, helping coach Michelle Filander organize and run the sessions.

"Morris has made himself an invaluable piece of our program," said Filander. "He provides consistent logistical support, but more importantly has become a great contributor to our team culture and supporter of our players."
