Ladies Split pair of SCAC Matches on Saturday

Sherman, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team split a pair of matches versus St. Thomas and Austin College in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday as the Ladies wrapped up action in the conference divisional at Sid Rich Gym.

The Ladies (11-15, 2-7 SCAC) finished 1-3 for the weekend after dropping a pair of 3-0 matches on Friday to Texas Lutheran in its opening match of the day and then to Colorado College in its evening contest.

Match one recap: Centenary 3 St. Thomas 1

Centenary earned an impressive 3-1 win versus the Celts of St. Thomas on Saturday morning as the Maroon and White dropped the first set by a score of 26-24 but then rallied by winning the final three sets to win the match by scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-12. The Ladies collected 88 digs, 53 kills, 53 assists, nine total blocks, and four aces. The 88 digs were one shy of their single-game record of 89 set versus Schreiner on Oct. 1.

Centenary senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas) tied her single-game career high for kills with 26 versus the Celts and added 14 digs. Senior S Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) had a great match with 47 assists, 17 digs, and a kill. Sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) recorded 17 digs and four assists, and fellow sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) tallied 16 digs and an ace.

Senior OH Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) added seven digs, three aces, and a pair of kills and sophomore MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas), senior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.), and junior DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) combined for 12 digs, 12 kills, and one assist. The Ladies averaged an impressive 22 digs per set and Davis averaged 6.5 kills per set.

Match two recap: Austin College 3 Centenary 0

The 'Roos were too much for the Ladies on Saturday afternoon as they took the match by scores of 25-13, 25-8, and 25-19.

Davis finished with 10 kills and five digs, Proctor tallied 12 digs, and Clarin-Jante recorded 13 assists, five digs, three kills, and a pair of aces. Kelley contributed five digs, three kills, and two aces. Ligman posted nine digs and freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) added six digs and three kills.

Centenary will take a break from conference play next week as the Ladies face the Henderson State Reddies in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark.
