Bulldogs Dominant in Sweep of Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas Lutheran completed the SCAC series sweep over Austin College with a pair of run-rule wins in Saturday's doubleheader, 11-0 in five innings and 9-0 in five.

The Bulldogs (24-3, 8-1 SCAC) beat the 'Roos by a combined score of 28-0 in the three-game series, holding the 'Roos to six hits on the weekend by the Bulldogs pitching staff and 22 players seeing the field.

With the series sweep, TLU has not lost a conference series since joining the conference in 2014, and have won 73 of its last 75 SCAC regular season games. With three straight W's this weekend, the Bulldogs have beaten Austin College 30 consecutive games dating back to joining the SCAC in 2014.

In Saturday's opening game, nine Bulldogs recorded a hit, nine Bulldogs stole a base, and eight brought in at least one run. Junior outfielder Madison Johnson (Round Rock/Round Rock) paced the team with three RBIs.

TLU put up two runs on three hits in the first inning with an RBI single from Johnson and an RBI double from Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) getting the scoring started.

Reagan Hillis (Cedar Park/Cedar Park) drove in Hudgeons in the third to increase the TLU lead to 3-0.

TLU put the game away in the fifth, scoring eight runs on eight hits. Kirsten Williams (Pearland/Glenda Dawson), Laura Hernandez (Missouri City/Ridge Point), Isabella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland), Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton), Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek), and Madison Johnson all drove in runs in the inning with Williams and Johnson driving in two runs each in the inning.

Madison Johnson finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, while Kirsten Williams finished 1-for-2 with a two-RBI double.

Senior Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) went the distance in the circle, striking out two and allowing no runs, three hits and one walk.

Game two saw the Bulldogs put nine runs on seven hits to complete the sweep of the 'Roos.

Senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) threw a gem for her eighth win of the season, going all five innings, striking nine and allowing no runs and just two hits.

Madison Johnson would pick up where she left off in game one with a sacrifice fly to score the opening run of the game for TLU. Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) would drive in Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) with an RBI single for the second of four first inning runs with TLU. A ground out from Reagan Hillis and an RBI double from Missy Muras (La Grange/La Grange) would bring the score to 4-0 after one inning.

Texas Lutheran would put the game away in the fifth inning behind an RBI double from Hudgeons and sacrifice flies from Kay and Clark.

TLU improved to 24-3 on the year with 10 run-rule victories. The Bulldogs offense has outscored opponents 187-36 while the pitching staff has tossed an NCAA Division-III leading 15 shutouts and struck out 136 batters, allowing oponents to bat just .186 on the year.

The Bulldogs turn their attention to a three-game series against Southwestern at Ed Kruse Stadium on April 6-7. First pitch for Thursday's first game is scheduled for 5 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
