Sherman, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team earned a season sweep over the Austin College 'Roos with a 62-58 victory in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Hughey Gym.

The Ladies improved to 3-20 overall and 3-11 in conference play while the 'Roos fell to 1-21 and 0-13 in SCAC play. Centenary previously defeated the 'Roos 68-62 in Shreveport on Dec. 31.

Freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) scored 12 points to lead the Ladies while sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.), sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.), and freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) each scored nine points.

The Ladies shot 33.3 % (18-54) from the floor for the game while the 'Roos finished at 38 % (19-50). Both teams struggled from behind the 3-point line as the Ladies were 3-12 for 25 % and the 'Roos 2-17 for 11.8 %. Centenary went 23-38 from the free throw line for 60.5 % and Austin College was an impressive 18-20 for 90 %.

Stokes reached double figures for the sixth time this season and second game in a row. She played 22 minutes and was 4-7 from the field and 4-7 from the FT line with six rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. Drumgo just missed scoring in double figures and added a team-high seven rebounds with two assists and two steals and was 5-6 at the FT line. Drumgo has reached double figures in scoring in five of her last six games.

Jones played 21 minutes and grabbed two boards and added a steal and was 3-6 at the FT line. Major played 35 minutes and was 3-9 overall, 1-4 at the FT line and hit a pair of treys in five attempts. She added two rebounds and one steal.

Freshman G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) and freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) each scored eight and freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) added six. Plumber started and played 22 minutes and went 5-8 at the FT line and his one trey. She grabbed four rebounds and had a pair of assists and a steal. Sepulvado played 31 minutes off the bench and was 3-5 overall and 2-3 at the FT line with two rebounds and two assists. Barrow played 21 minutes and was 2-4 overall and 2-2 at the FT line with four rebounds, a game-high four assists, and a steal.

Sarah Putnicki led all scorers with 20 points and was one of two 'Roos to reach double digits as Brooklyn Matthews scored 10. Putnicki played 37 minutes and was 7-12 overall and 6-7 at the FT line. She grabbed three rebounds, had one steal, and blocked a game-high five shots. Matthews came off the bench and had six rebounds and three assists in just 14 minutes on 3-3 shooting and 4-4 at the FT line.

Sarah Gwin added eight points, nine rebounds, six assists, and one steal as she played all 40 minutes. Grace Moothart and Megan O'Neil combined for 13 points, four boards, two assists, and a steal.

Each team scored 28 points in the paint and bench points were also close as the Ladies' reserves scored 18 and the 'Roos contributed 15. Centenary had 12 second-chance points to Austin's eight, the Ladies scored six fast break points to four for the 'Roos, and Centenary scored 16 points off of Austin's 20 turnovers while the 'Roos scores seven points off of just 10 Centenary miscues.

The Ladies have turned the ball over 10 times or less in a game three times this season and all three have come in the last nine games. The Ladies made at least 21 free throws for the fourth-straight game and have made 20+ five times this season. Four players made at least three free throws in the game, led by five each from Drumgo and Plumber.

Centenary led 17-12 after the first quarter and then the 'Roos edged the Maroon and White 15-12 in the second period to make it a 29-27 lead for the Ladies at halftime. Centenary outscored Austin 14-13 in the third quarter to take a 43-40 lead into the final 10 minutes. A 19-18 edge in the final period secured the four-point win for the Ladies.

The Ladies jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the game and the 'Roos did not get on the scoreboard until a free throw by Putnicki at the 7:13 mark made it 8-1. A layup by Major gave the Ladies a 17-6 lead with 2:21 left but a three-point play by Moothart a minute in to the second period tied the game at 17-17. The 'Roos took a 21-17 lead with 6:28 left before the half, but a quick 7-0 run over the next two minutes capped by a trey from Plumber gave the Ladies a 24-21 lead.

The teams traded baskets in the third quarter as the game remained close, but the Ladies were able to increase their lead double digits late in the game and fend off the 'Roos to seal the win.

The Ladies will be off for 10 days and return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14 against the University of St. Thomas Celts (6-15, 5-9 SCAC) in Houston at 5:30 p.m. The Celts handed the Ladies a 75-66 at home on Jan. 10.
