Women's Soccer Shuts Down Austin College

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's soccer held Austin College shotless for the full 90 minutes and posted a 3-0 non-conference win over the 'Roos at Gustafson Field Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Texas Lutheran improved to 2-5-1 on the season and 14-0-3 against Austin College since 2014.

Texas Lutheran took 31 shots as a team, putting nineteen on target. The Bulldogs also controlled 66 percent of the possession - earning their second consecutive shutout.

After a first half that saw the Bulldogs kept scoreless despite 15 shots, nine on goal, the Bulldogs' finally broke through in the 55th minute when freshman Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) found the back of the net off of a second ball.

Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) scored in the 67th minute and fired off her second goal of the match in the 71st minute to seal the Bulldogs victory. With the two goals, Simien moved to second in the SCAC in goals (4) and third in points (9).

Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) took the winning decision - improving to 1-2-0 on the season - as Phipps, Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) and Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) all saw time in-goal for Texas Lutheran.

TLU played 23 players in total. Klarissa Martinez led with 85 minutes played. 10 players logged at least 50 minutes with five reserves coming off the bench for 20 or more minutes of action.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday night as they travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, to face the Ladies of Centenary College. The match is scheduled for a 6 PM kickoff at Mayo Field. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
