Volleyball beats Austin College in Four

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran volleyball took down Austin College for a 3-1 win, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, Saturday morning at Memorial Gymnasium in a pivotal SCAC conference matchup that had fourth-place implications as the two teams sat in fourth and fifth place entering the match.

The Bulldogs improved to 16-11 (7-6 SCAC) and picked up their fourth straight home victory of the season and eighth straight dating back to last season. Texas Lutheran had 11 blocks in the match.

Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led the Bulldogs with 9 kills and hit .188 in the match. She also had 4 digs and 5 block assists. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) had 7 kills, a season high 6 service aces, 5 digs and 4 block assists - leading the Bulldogs with 15 points on the match.

Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the Bulldogs with 7 blocks. She also had 3 kills - hitting .125 in the match. Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) had 7 kills, 3 digs and a block.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 15 assists and added 7 digs. Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) & Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) finished with 6 and 5 assists respectively.

The Bulldogs rattled off 7 straight points to rally from a 12-9 first half deficit to take a 16-12 lead before closing the set with a 25-21 win.

The second set saw the Bulldogs fall behind early as the 'Roos came out firing on all cylinders scoring the first 5 points of the set and leading by as much as 15-8. The Bulldogs battled back into the set but wasn't able to complete the comeback dropping the set 22-25.

The third set provided a tournament-esque atmosphere as the two teams traded momentum in a tightly contested set. With the set tied at 17, the Bulldogs were able to pull away courtesy of a 6-0 run and win the set 25-19.

In a match filled with long runs from the Bulldogs, the fourth set was no different. After trailing 2-0 to start the match, the Bulldogs scored 5 straight to regain the momentum. That would be the closest the 'Roos would be for the remainder of the match as the Bulldogs clinched the set and the match with a 25-19 fourth set victory.
