Crusaders Lose Tight Match with Austin

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's volleyball team lost their conference match with Austin College 3-1 on Tuesday.  They fall to 7-16 on the year and 1-10 in conference play.

After trading points early on, the Roos game themselves some cushion with a 7-1 run to take a 13-5 lead.  The two sides largely traded points for the remainder of the set, save for a three point run by Austin and a four point run by Dallas., with Austin taking set one 25-17.

Set two was just about as tight as you could get, with neither side leading by more than three points.  It went down to the wire and into extras, with Austin just scratching out the 28-26 win.

The Crusaders were dominant for much of set three, leading by as many as 10 points, but Austin tied it up at 23-23 after a 14-4 scoring run.  This time, it was Dallas who would see it out in extras with a 26-24 win to force a fourth set.

Dallas took the early lead in set four at 8-6, but seven unanswered points by Austin saw them take the lead for good.  The lead hovered around four or five points most of the way, with Austin stringing together some points near the end to take set four 25-16 to win the match.

Cassie Dyoub led the team  with 14 kills, Emma Parsons led with 21 assists and 13 digs, and Layo Akinyede led all players with three block solos on the night.
