David Beck Masterful In Eagles Double-Header Split

David Beck tossed a complete game shutout against Austin College to open the season.

GAME ONE
Overview:
Starting pitcher David Beck went the distance in a masterful performance and Luke Morrison provided the game-winning RBI to push the Eagles to a 1-0 win over Austin College in the season-opener February 8. The right-handed Beck threw a seven-inning complete game and allowed just three hits. Beck fanned seven and did not allow a walk. In the fourth, Bradon Mabry reached base on an error and then stole second. Morrison delivered a double down the left field line to drive in Mabry for the game-winning run. From there, Beck controlled the Kangaroo offense retiring the side in the sixth and seventh innings. The Eagles were clean in the field defensively. The Eagles recorded five hits, all coming from different players. Chase Edwards walked three times.

GAME TWO
Overview:
Austin College used a bases loaded Eagle miscue in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a 2-1 win. The Kangaroos opened the scoring in the second with a run, but the Eagles answered with a run of their own in the fourth. Frank Yackovich recorded a sacrifice fly to score Josh Stephens. Stephens reached base on a single. The Eagles couldn't muster any offense after going down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Austin College mounted a rally in the final inning and eventually loaded the bases with two outs. The Eagles' defense committed an infield error to allow the Kangaroos to score the game-winning run. Reliever Kris Sloane was charged with the loss. Blake Benson started and went 5.1 innings and struck out five. Rey Lozano paced the Eagles with a 2-for-3 performance.
