
SHERMAN, Texas – The Celts baseball team put on an offensive showcase Friday evening, defeating Austin College 14-4 in a run-rule victory at Baker Field. The win improves the Celts to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in SCAC conference play.
The Celts got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning when Dillon McKee launched a two-run home run to right field, driving in Alex Trinh to give St. Thomas an early 2-0 lead. Austin College responded with a run in the bottom of the first and another in the second to tie the game at 2-2.
St. Thomas regained the lead in the top of the fourth when Gabe Garner crushed a solo home run to left field, making it 3-2. The game remained tight until the top of the sixth inning, when the Celts' offense erupted for seven runs to break the game open.
The sixth-inning rally began with Gabe Garner doubling down the left field line, driving in Dylan Lamb and Dillon McKee to extend the lead to 5-2. Sam Lampson followed with a single, allowing Garner to score on an error by the left fielder. Tyler Mills then singled through the left side, driving in Lampson, and Alex Trinh added an RBI single to score Eduardo Tamez. Dillon McKee capped off the inning with another RBI single, and Dylan Lamb advanced on a wild pitch, allowing Trinh to score and pushing the lead to 10-2.
Austin College managed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Celts responded with four more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory. Tyler Mills singled through the left side, driving in Sam Lampson, and Jarod Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ryan Ratajczak. Alex Trinh added a sacrifice fly, and Dylan Lamb singled to first base, driving in Tyler Mills to make it 14-4.
