Crusaders Rally Late to Sweep Austin

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team won their conference matchup with Austin College on Sunday.  They improve to 14-12 overall on the year and 5-4 in conference play.

Dallas 10, Austin 6

WP: Marcelo Carrillo II (3-1)

LP: Ethan Nixon (0-2)

Things couldn't have started off much worse for Dallas in their series finale against Austin College.  Despite loading the bases in the first inning, the Crusaders failed to capitalize and stranded all three runners without plating a single run.  Instead, the Roos would take a 2-0 lead after taking advantage of a pair of throwing errors by Dallas.

Tyler Darnell got UD on the board with a two-out RBI single to right in the fifth inning, but the Roos pulled two right back on a passed ball and an error as the Crusaders' defensive woes continued.  Two more unearned runs in the sixth made it 6-1 Austin, as nothing seemed to be going Dallas' way.

That all changed in the ninth inning, however, as the Roos came crashing down.  Austin issued four walks, hit one batter, and threw a wild pitch to give the Crusaders six free bases in the inning.  Dallas jumped on the chance and came up with four hits in the inning to pile on nine runs.

Brett Castillo made it 6-4 with a two-RBI single, and David Saldana put the Crusaders on top for good with a two-RBI single of his own to make it 7-6 for Dallas.  They added three more insurance runs for good measure, though they didn't need them as Roos failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, giving Dallas the series sweep.

David Saldana went 5-for-10 at the plate with three RBI in the series.  Paxton Huff led the team with five RBI this week, hitting .417 in the series, and Brett Castillo hit .429 with three RBI in the series.
