Softball Opens SCAC Play With 13-0 Victory

St. Thomas (Tex.) dominated in a commanding victory against Austin on March 8, 2024, with a final score of 13-0.

The game started with St. Thomas (Tex.) swiftly taking control, scoring four runs in the first inning. Haley Lupian crossed the plate on a hit by pitch to Isabelle Charles, who then sparked a three-RBI double from Lindsey Gonzalez, bringing Mallarie Munson, Chloe Bennett, and herself home.

In the second inning, St. Thomas extended their lead to 7-0 with Jaelyn Simmons crushing a two-run homer, scoring herself and Rebecca Archibald, who advanced to third on a throwing error.

St. Thomas continued their offensive onslaught in the third and fourth innings, adding three more runs. Delayne Moreno's RBI fielder's choice brought in Grace Torres in the third inning, while Archibald's bunt single scored Taylor Hollins in the third. In the fourth inning, Isabelle Charles and Moreno each contributed RBI singles, extending the lead to 11-0.

The game concluded in the fifth inning as St. Thomas added two more runs. Natalia Rivera's single brought Jaelyn Simmons home, and Viviana Vargas's sacrifice fly allowed Chloe Bennett to score, sealing the 13-0 victory.

Pitcher Victoria Sossaman delivered an outstanding performance for St. Thomas, pitching a complete game shutout while allowing only two hits and striking out six batters.

St. Thomas (Tex.) showcased a dominant performance both offensively and defensively, securing a convincing win over Austin.
