'Roos Take Two of Three to Close Season

IRVING, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team won two of its final three matches over the weekend, topping the University of Dallas 3-1 on Friday before splitting with LeTourneau and Millsaps, falling 3-1 to the Jackets before defeating the Majors 3-2. Austin College finishes the season with an 18-14 overall record.

The 'Roos dropped their first set against Dallas 25-21 on Friday evening before bouncing back with three straight wins to notch a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory. Austin College took set two 25-23, set three 25-20, and utilized a dominant 25-15 fourth set to clinch the victory. Olivia Linton and Victoria Smith each had 11 kills for Austin College and Rita Araya added 10 while also boasting a .476 hitting percentage. TJ Folse added eight kills and 19 digs, and Laynie Kovacs led Austin College with 28 digs in the win. Brianne Tseng led the 'Roos with 22 assists and had 10 digs, and Madison Manning chipped in with 18 assists while Alyssa Holloway had 15 digs.

In the team's first match of the day on Saturday, LeTourneau on 25-19 in the first set and 25-22 in the second before Austin College got a 25-23 set three win, but the Jackets bounced back with a 25-15 win in the fourth set to hand the 'Roos the defeat. Smith had 12 kills and Linton added 11, with Smith also adding three block assists. Araya had nine kills and Riley Abernethy had six to go along with 13 digs, and Kovacs paced the 'Roos with 25 digs and added seven assists. Manning had a team-best 20 assists and Tseng had 18 assists and 11 digs in the loss.

Austin College closed out the season with a five-set win over Millsaps, losing the opening set 25-16 before rebounding with a 25-21 second set win and a 25-23 victory in set three. However, the Majors took the fourth set 25-15, but Austin College closed things out with a 15-11 win in the deciding set to earn the win. Abernethy had 17 kills and 18 digs and Linton had 13 kills, while Smith finished with 10. Kovacs led the 'Roos defensively with 26 digs, and Holloway added 13. Manning paced the 'Roos with 22 assists while adding 10 digs, and Tseng had 18 assists in the win.
