'Roo Volleyball Drops Pair of Heartbreakers

SHREVEPORT, La - The Austin College volleyball team took both Colorado College and No. 11-ranked Trinity to five sets, but the 'Roos came up just short in both matches in a pair of 3-2 defeats. The 'Roos are now 14-8 on the year.

Against Colorado College, the 'Roos came out strong with a 25-18 first set victory before the Tigers took the next two by scores of 25-16 and 25-22. Austiin College evened things up with a 25-20 third set victory, but Colorado College answered with a 15-12 win in the clinching set to hand the 'Roos the loss. Olivia Linton had 14 kills and Riley Abernethy had 12 kills and 16 digs to lead the 'Roos, while Victoria Smith had 11 kills and seven total blocks, including six block solos.

Laynie Kovacs paced the 'Roos defensively with 23 digs, and Brianne Tseng had a big match with 30 assists and 12 digs. Madison Manning chipped in 20 assists.

The 'Roos went back and forth with nationally-ranked Trinity in their second match of the day, falling 25-21 in the opening set before winning a hard-fought 27-25 set two. The Tigers took set three 26-24 before Austin College got a 25-21 win to force a fifth set, but once again the 'Roos found themselves on the wrong side of a 15-12 final set. Smith had 17 kills to lead Austin College, and Linton was close behind with 15 kills. Samantha Graham and Abernethy each had 14 kills, with Abernethy also coming up with 19 digs. 

Kovacs had 36 digs to lead Austin College, and Manning had 29 assists and 11 digs while Tseng added 27 assists and 10 digs. Next up for the 'Roos is a match against Schreiner to close out the weekend on Saturday afternoon.
