'Roo Volleyball Tops Henderson, Falls to Hendrix

The Austin College volleyball team split its first two matches at the Hendrix College Invitational on Friday, topping Division II opponent Henderson State University 3-2 before falling to host school Hendrix 3-0. The 'Roos are now 10-3 overall this season.

In the first match the 'Roos topped Henderson State 18-25, 25-13, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13 to hit double figures in the win column for the year, with Presleigh Watson putting together a dominant performance in the middle with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .611 in the match. Reygan Holloman added 11 kills, and Rebecca Franklin had 10. Dani DeWitt had seven kills and a .556 hitting percentage.

Lauren Wulz led the team with 34 assists in the victory, and Rachel Fusselman had a team-best 20 digs. Chandler Sherman added 13 assists and eight digs, and Madison Lee added eight kills and six digs.

In the second match of the day, the 'Roos fell to the Warriors 14-25, 17-25, 15-25 as the 'Roos had a team hitting percentage of just .036 and 17 kills, compared to .241 and 42 kills for Hendrix. Holloman led the team with five kills and three players had three kills each. Wulz had eight assists, Sherman had seven, and Fusselman once again led the team with 20 digs in the defeat.

The 'Roos will be looking for two more wins Saturday when they take on Williams Baptist at 10:00 a.m. and Rhodes College at 12:00 p.m.
