'Roos Fall to Southwestern in Season Opener

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each fell by scores of 9-0 to visiting Southwestern University, as the 'Roos opened their 2024 spring campaign.

Trey Salyer and Evan Pezirtzoglou teamed on line one on the men's side, falling by a score of 0-8, while Luke Henley and Zeneth Mata dropped a 2-8 line two decision. The Pirates won on line three by default. Salyer fell 0-6, 1-6 on line one in singles action, with Henley dropping a 3-6, 2-6 decision on line two. Pezirtzoglou was bested 4-6, 2-6 on line three, and Joel Colunga fell 0-6, 1-6 on line four. Mata rounded out the day on line five, dropping a 1-6, 2-6 match. The 'Roos defaulted on line six. 

On the women's side, Karsyn Clouse and Emma Davidson fell 0-8 on line one in doubles competition, and Bailey Standokes and Kaitlin Clasby lost 1-8 playing line two. The third line of doubles resulted in a default win for Southwestern. Clouse was downed 0-6, 0-6 on line one in singles, and Davidson also fell by a score of 0-6, 0-6 on line two. Clasby dropped an 0-6, 2-6 line three match, and Standokes fell 2-6, 3-6 on line four. Lines five and six went to Southwestern by default.
