SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team came up just short against visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday morning, falling 5-4 to the Crusaders to bring their overall record to 2-3 on the year.
Austin College got a doubles victory from Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard on line one, while Madison Hiler and Sierra Thomas earned a hard-fought 8-7 victory on line three. The flight two doubles match went to UMHB, and Francis and Shapard each won their singles matches at lines one and two, respectively. However, the Crusaders would take the other four singles matches to close things out and hand the 'Roos the defeat.
Francis won her singles match 6-3, 6-1, and Shapard cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory on line two. Leisey fell on line three by scores of 1-6, 4-6, and Hiler dropped her line four match 4-6, 3-6. Megan Morris fell 2-6, 2-6 playing at number five, and Thomas dropped her line six match 3-6, 0-6.
