Women's Tennis Edges Ozarks

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team improved to 2-2 overall on the year with a 5-4 victory over the visiting University of Ozarks on Friday evening.

The 'Roos picked up two convincing wins in doubles competition against the short-handed Eagles, who defaulted the third doubles match as well as line six singles. Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard won 8-1 playing line one doubles and Maya Leisey and Megan Morris earned an 8-2 victory on line two.

Sierra Thomas was the lone 'Roo to earn a singles victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at line four, but with line six defaulting and the three doubles wins that would be enough for Austin College to clinch the match. Maya Leisey dropped a tough match at line one and Madelin Hiler fell on line two, while Morris battled but came up just short in a 6-3, 2-6, 5-10 defeat on line three and Elena Aventa fell on line five.

Austin College is back on the court on Saturday morning when the 'Roos take on Mary Hardin-Baylor.
