SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the young season on Saturday in convincing fashion, topping Texas Lutheran 8-1 in a road match.
The 'Roos swept through doubles competition, taking 8-1 victories in flight one and flight three action with the teams of Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard and Megan Morris and Sierra Thomas earning those wins, respectively. Maya Leisey and Madelin Hiler were able to complete the doubles sweep with a hard-fought victory on line two, taking the point with an 8-7 victory.
Francis and Shapard were also dominant in their singles matches, with Francis winning 6-1, 6-2 on line one and Shapard picking up a 6-2, 6-0 flight two victory. Hiler was equally strong in a flight four win, cruising past her opponent by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Morris joined in on the action with a 6-1, 6-0 win at flight five singles, and Thomas blanked her line six opponent 6-0, 6-0.
The 'Roos are back in action on Sunday as they take on the University of St. Thomas in another road match in Houston.
