Late Goal Earns 'Roos Draw with UST

SHERMAN, Texas - Samantha Reynolds found the back of the net in the 85th minute of action, and those late heroics were enough to earn the Austin College women's soccer team a draw with visiting St. Thomas on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 5-5-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

The first half saw both sides remain scoreless despite each team getting quality chances, and the Celts would finish the half owning a 9-3 edge in shot attempts, though neither squad was able to put any of those attempts on frame. The second half opened much the same, but the Celts were able to break through and get on the board in the 62nd minute as Hope Billington managed to punch one in to make it a 1-0 game.

That's how things would remain for nearly 25 minutes, and just as it appeared St. Thomas would escape with the one-goal win, the 'Roos earned a free kick from just outside the penalty area at the 84:16 mark. Reynolds stepped up and drilled a shot from 19 yards that found its way into the back of the net, bringing Austin College even and enabling the team to come away with the draw. St. Thomas finished the game with an 18-7 shot advantage, though only four of those efforts were on target while the 'Roos managed to put three of their seven attempts on frame. Kenedie Lane made three saves for Austin College.

The 'Roos are back in action on Sunday, when they play host to Centenary College at noon. Sunday will also serve as Senior Day for the 'Roos, with that recognition set to begin at approximately 11:40 a.m.
