'Roo Women Roll Past Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team led just 15-12 after the opening quarter, but the 'Roos dominated after that en route to an 82-40 victory on Tuesday evening in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 7-13 overall and 6-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College took complete control in the second quarter to pull away from the Crusaders, outscoring UD 21-6 in the frame to head into halftime leading 36-18. Dallas made just 1-of-13 shots in the period, while Austin College made 7-of-16 and forced UD into six turnovers. The margin grew to 48-25 after three quarters, as Austin College once again clamped down defensively, with Dallas shooting 18.2% from the field in the third. The 'Roos made 6-of-13 shots from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the period to push the lead past 20 points.

The 'Roos never trailed in the game, and held Dallas to 24.5% shooting from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc. Austin College, meanwhile, hit on 47.5% from the floor and made 35% of their three point attempts, and also dominated on the glass with a 50-30 advantage. The 'Roos outscored the Crusaders 17-12 from the free throw line in the game, as well.

Sarah Putnicki scored 20 points for Austin College, hitting 7-of-12 shots from the field, and Sarah Gwin chipped in 14 points to go along with five assists and four steals. Austin College used a balanced scoring effort in the win, with 12 different players entering the scoring column. Lauren Traylor scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Carrie Johnson and Naomi Anamekwe each scored seven. Marianna Bert and Olivia Keyser each chipped in six points in the victory, while Adryan Alvarez came off the bench to lead Dallas with 12 points.
