'Roo Women Earn Road Win at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The No. 19-ranked Austin College women's basketball team overcame its worst shooting performance of the season to pick up a 56-44 victory at Centenary College on Friday night in Shreveport. The 'Roos are now 21-3 overall and 14-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College struggled to get anything going offensively throughout the first three quarters and found themselves trailing 13-12 after the opening quarter and leading just 27-23 at halftime. The 'Roos mustered only eight points in the third quarter, heading into the final frame leading 35-31 before finally getting on track at the offensive end with 21 points to pull away from the Ladies to earn the win. The 'Roos hit 50% of their field goal attempts in the final quarter after hitting just 2-of-15 shots in the third and failing to get above 30% from the field in any of the first three frames.

Ally Longaker and Reagan Chiaverini each scored six points in the fourth quarter as Austin College began to pull away, combining to hit 6-of-7 shot attempts in the period. Addison Walling led the 'Roos with 13 points, including eight in the first half, hitting 5-of-11 shots in the game. Chiaverini finished with 10 points on 5-of-15 shooting, pulling down eight rebounds as well, as the only other Austin College player to reach double figures. Longaker finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

The 'Roos limited the Ladies to just 13 made field goals in the game, and no Centenary players managed to notch double digit scoring outputs. Austin College also forced 29 turnovers and held Centenary to 4-of-17 shooting from beyond the arc.

Austin College wraps up the regular season on Sunday when they head to Houston to take on St. Thomas, and then heads to next weekends SCAC Tournament locked in as the No. 2-seed in the championship.
