Women's Hoops Holds Off Southwestern for Road Victory

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team got off to a slow start and then had to hold off a late comeback bid by Southwestern, topping the Pirates 67-60 on Friday night. The 'Roos are now 18-5 overall and 11-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College found itself trailing 13-10 after the opening quarter as the 'Roos struggled to get going offensively. However, the team would out-score Southwestern by 14 over the next two quarters, and managed to fend off the Pirates as they attempted to claw away at the deficit. Bryce Frank had 19 points and 12 rebounds, her seventh straight double-double. She also handed out five assists.

Meghan Lewis added 12 points, seven rebounds, and two steals and Kacie West came off the bench to add 12 points. The 'Roos got seven points apiece from Caitlyn Collins and Mikayla Gascich. The 'Roos struggled to find a rhythm on offense, hitting just 6-of-20 from three and making only 11-of-19 free throws. Southwestern also held a 47-40 edge on the boards.

Austin College will be looking to match last year's win total on Saturday night as they take on Texas Lutheran in Seguin with a chance at their 19th victory of the season.
