Men's Swimming Ties with McMurry, Women Fall

The Austin College men's swimming and diving team tied visiting McMurry on Friday, while the women fell in their meet. The men scored 94.5 points to tie McMurrry while the women were topped 101-65.

On the men's side, the 'Roos got some strong performances from several swimmers including Bentley Gilbert, who took first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.31, and Josh Chanin, who finished first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.20. Gilbert added a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.89, and Erik Gentzel won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.75. Truman Word also took first in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:28.77.

For the women, Lauren Wheeler had several outstanding swims including first place finishes in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard backstroke. Wheeler took the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.63 and had a time of 1:03.25 in the 100 backstroke. Anne Booker also had a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 27.05.
