Eight From 'Roo Softball Named All-SCAC

SEGUIN, Texas - Eight members of the Austin College softball team have been named honorable mention All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for their outstanding play during the 2024 season, the league office has announced.

Elizabeth Preston, a senior shortstop from Prairiland, was named All-SCAC for the fourth time in as many years after batting .370 and tying for the conference lead with four triples, while also adding four doubles, a home run, and 13 runs batted in. Preston had a career-best 47 hits and 25 stolen bases, finishing her career as Austin College's all-time leader with 60 steals. 

Chyrsi Hemby, a junior second baseman from Bonham, was an All-SCAC selection after finishing the year ranked third in all of NCAA Division III with 19 regular season doubles, and finished the year with an Austin College program record 20 on the year. She led the 'Roos with a .378 batting average and 34 runs batted in, adding a double, two home runs, 30 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

Tori Fowler, a sophomore outfielder from Red Oak, set the Austin College single-season record with 28 stolen bases in her first year with the program to help her earn All-SCAC honors. Fowler batted .339 with 33 runs scored, three doubles, and 10 runs batted in.

Hannah King, a junior utility player from Midlothian, was another first year player to earn All-SCAC accolades after finishing second on the team with 14 doubles, wrapping up the year with a .323 batting average while scoring 16 runs and driving in 22 more. King also had two triples and a pair of home runs on the season.

Carrie Johnson, a senior outfielder from Sherman, was named All-SCAC for the second time in her career after finishing the season with a .322 batting average, and was second on the team with 29 runs batted in. Johnson had seven doubles, scored 12 runs, and added four stolen bases in her final season at Austin College.

Hailie Swiatkowski, a junior pitcher from Mundelien, Ill., was an All-SCAC honorable mention pick after finishing the season with seven victores in the circle, striking out 14 batters with a 5.21 earned-run-average. She threw 10 complete games, and also added four doubles, a triple, two home runs, and 13 runs batted in as a hitter.

Alexus Johnson, a junior pitcher from Humble, was recognized as an All-SCAC performer after setting the Austin College single-season mark with 10 victories, while also finishing among the SCAC leaders with 49 strikeouts. Johnson boasted a 3.72, and was among the NCAA Division III leaders with 16 complete games. She also scored nine runs and had two doubles at the plate.

Faith Butler, a sophomore outfielder from Krum, rounds out the All-SCAC picks for Austin College after finishing her second season in Sherman with a batting average of .319 with a double and six runs batted in, while also scoring 14 runs and stealing seven bases during the course of the year.
