'Roo Softball Falls to Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped the opening game of its weekend series at Schreiner University on Friday, falling 10-2 to the Mountaineers to bring the team's overall record to 2-15 overall.

The 'Roos scored both of their runs in the top of the first to grab an early lead, with Ashley Elliott belting a two-run homer to make it a 2-0 game. Schreiner got one run back in the bottom of the second, and the Mountaineers grabbed their first lead of the evening with two runs in the fourth to push ahead 3-2. Three more runs came across for Schreiner in the fifth, making it a 6-2 game, and the Mountaineers would tack on four more in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 10-2 final score.

Elliott went 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead the 'Roos, and Sarah Ramirez, Andrea Saucedo, and Avery Atencio each had a hit for Austin College. Karsen Lampkin went the distance in the circle for Austin College, surrendering 10 runs o 14 hits with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

Austin College and Schreiner will square off again for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
