Men's Cross Country Captures UTD Invite Title

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Austin College men's cross country team made history on Saturday morning, taking first place in the University of Texas-Dallas Invite, while the women also boasted several strong performances. The men's win marks the first overall meet victory in program history for either the men or women.

RJ Navarro had a record-setting performance to lead the men, establishing a new school record with a time of 16:06 in the 5K event. That shatters the previous record of 17:20, set in 2014 by Chris Burke. Three other 'Roo men also surpassed the old record, with Johnny Biffar coming in with a time of 16:37, Andrew Thomas finishing with a time of 16:41, and Chris Biffar posting a time of 17:13. Navarro's time was good for second place in the meet, while Johnny Biffar finished ninth, Thomas was 18th, and Chris Biffar was 36th. Rounding out the top five for Austin College was Charlie McIntyre, who finished 56th with a time of 17:26.

On the women's side, the 'Roos got an 18th place finish from Danielle Lozano, who came in with a time of 22:06 to pace Austin College. Madison Barnum also ran well, finishing 28th with a time of 23:06, while Tori Dodd and Becca Tobias rounded out Austin College's runners with 65th and 67th place finishes.

Austin College is off until early October, when the 'Roos head to Irving to compete in a race hosted by the University of Dallas on October 5.
