Men's Tennis Edged on Senior Day

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker 5-4 to the visiting University of Texas-Dallas as the 'Roos celebrated Senior Day on Sunday, bringing the team's overall mark to 3-9 on the year as they head into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament next weekend.

Calum Robe and Tate Nelson got Austin College on the board with a point at number two doubles, winning 8-4, while Brett O'Brien and Preston Spivey fell 8-3 at line one and William Dixon and Matthew Cochran dropped an 8-0 decision at flight three. 

O'Brien earned a hard-fought victory at number one singles, coming out on top by scores of 3-6, 7-6, 10-8, and Spivey picked up a 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 win at number two singles. Robe added a big win at number three, taking the match 4-6, 6-0, 10-3, while Nelson and Joseph Carrillo each fell 1-6, 1-6  on lines four and five, respectively. Cochran battled throughout the decisive match on line six, falling 4-6 in the first set before taking set two 6-0, but the senior was edged 8-10 in the third set as the Comets came out on top in the match.

Austin College will take on St. Thomas in the opening round of the SCAC Tournament on April 30 on the campus of Trinity University.
