'Roos Draw with Centenary College

'Roos Draw with Centenary College

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team went up 2-0 early and dominated control for most of the game, but Centenary tallied twice to even things up and neither team was able to get the game-winner in a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 7-5-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Austin College had an early opportunity to score when the 'Roos earned a penalty kick, but Centenary keeper Casey Clemo made a diving save to deny Louis Catchpole. However, Catchpole would tally shortly after, finding the back of the net off of an assist from Max Mundorff in the 22nd minute of action. The 'Roos would score again less than a minute later, as Alejandro Beracochea found Pierce Wear, who buried a shot to make it a 2-0 game.

Centenary got one goal back in the 32nd minute off the foot of Leo Marquez, and in the 40th minute, Clemo took advantage of Sunday's windy conditions to help him boot a punt nearly three quarters of the length of the field, and Fernando Santos was able to get beyond the 'Roo defense and finish to square things up heading into halftime. The 'Roos had a number of high quality looks in the second half, including a pair of point blank attempts by Catchpole, but Clemo kept Austin College at bay and the game would end with the teams even. Austin College finished the game with a 34-8 shot advantage, with Jayson Baldwin making one save for the 'Roos while Clemo had 12 stops for the Gents.

Austin College is home again on Friday when they host Texas Lutheran University at 8:00 p.m.
