Men's Soccer Falls to St. Thomas

SHERMAN, Texas - After a scoreless first half of action, the visiting St. Thomas Celts put three goals on the board in the final 45 minutes to hand the Austin College men's soccer team a 3-0 defeat on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 7-5 overall and 2-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Both teams had a number of outstanding chances during the first half, with each side attempting eight shots, but 'Roo keeper Everardo Garza and UST keeper Rodrigo Lazo each made several outstanding saves to keep things scoreless through the opening 45 minutes of action. The offensive opportunities continued into the second half for both teams, but it was St. Thomas who was able to break through, first with a goal by Daniel Castro in the 50th minute, and then 13 minutes later, Diego Lazo ripped a shot that deflected off of the underside of the crossbar and into the goal from the top of the box to make it 2-0.

St. Thomas would add its final tally of the match in the 79th minute, as Tutu Hernandez was able to get one more shot past Garza to make it 3-0 and the 'Roos were denied despite having multiple promising chances in the final minutes. Garza finished with seven saves for Austin College while Lazo stopped four shots, and the Celts finished the game with a 21-15 shot advantage.

Austin College will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host Centenary College at 2:00 p.m.
