Centenary Edges Austin College Men

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Centenary College on Friday, as the Gents took a 2-0 lead and the 'Roos were unable to complete the comeback. Austin College is now 2-13 overall and 0-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the loss.

The match was evenly played throughout, with both teams finding opportunities in the attacking third, but Centenary would break through first with a goal by Colton Howard at the 31:02 mark in the opening half. That would wind up being the difference heading into the half, with the Gents on top 1-0 while out-shooting Austin College 9-6 in the opening frame.

Centenary quickly doubled its lead just under three minutes into the second half, as the Gents managed to draw a penalty kick and Cole Schultz put it home to make it 2-0. Austin College drew a penalty opportunity of its own shortly after, but Centenary keeper Sami Borchalli managed to make the save to keep the 'Roos off the board. That wouldn't last long, though, as the 'Roos drew yet another penalty kick at the 52:52 mark, and this time Diego Rodriguez buried it in the back of the net to make it 2-1.

However, that's as close as things would get as the Gents would hold off Austin College down the stretch. Centenary finished the match with a 19-12 shot advantage, and Connor Tullis made seven saves for the 'Roos.
