SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end on Saturday, as the University of St. Thomas used an 11-of-22 performance from beyond the arc to help them past the 'Roos 81-68. Austin College is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The two teams went back and forth in the early going, with Austin College going on top 16-13 following a pair of Jackson Rennie threes. The Celts responded with a 10-0 run to make it 23-16 with 8:19 left to play, and after Rennie knocked down a jumper to stop the run, UST answered with an 11-0 run to make it 34-18 with 5:16 left before halftime. Austin College finished the half strong, however, using a big run of its own to get it back down to single digits heading into the locker room. The 'Roos outscored the Celts 11-2 in the last five minutes of the half, cutting it to a 36-29 game at the break.

Jordan Hudgins scored early in the second half to cut it to a five point game, but St. Thomas used an 11-2 run to surge ahead 47-33 before Kidus Getenet fueled another run for the 'Roos to get the margin down to seven. Getenet scored nine points for Austin College to trim it to a 51-44 game with 12:27 left. However, the Celts got hot from long distance over the next five minutes, knocking down a trio of threes to help push the lead to 69-49. The 'Roos cut the deficit to 10 points twice in the game's closing stretch, but were unable to get back within single digits the rest of the way.

Getenet scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-7 from deep, while also grabbing five rebounds. Nate Williams and Ocie Berry each chipped in nine points, with Williams grabbing seven boards, and Rennie and Hudgins each added eight points. The 'Roos shot 39.1% from the field compared to 52.8% for the Celts, while also hitting just 7-of-27 three point attempts. Calvin Williams IV led five Celts in double figures with 16 points.
