'Roos Run Win Streak to Four

CONWAY, Ark. - Kidus Getenet poured in 25 points to lead the Austin College men's basketball team to a 69-64 win at Hendrix College, making it four straight victories for the 'Roos and bringing the team's overall record to 4-3 on the year as they get read to enter into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next weekend.

The 'Roos fell behind 7-2 early but were in control for almost all of the remainder of the game, grabbing their first lead at 14-13 on a Joshua Joe triple midway through the opening half and pushing the margin to 18-13 on a Jordan Hudgins basket two minutes later. Austin College would ultimately head into halftime leading 31-25, and a three from Joe early in the second half pushed it to a 34-25 game. Getenet knocked down a three with 15:51 left to play to give Austin College it's first double digit lead at 41-31, and the margin would grow to 49-33 with 11:48 left to play.

Austin College maintained its double figure lead until just over five minutes were left on the clock, and after Hendrix cut it to 55-46 the 'Roos pushed it back to 60-46 on a three from Ethan Pearce with 4:06 remaining. The Warriors managed to cut it to a six point game at 67-61 with 22 seconds left, but a jumper by Pearce made it 69-61 with 13 seconds left to seal the victory. Getenet hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line to get his career-best 25 point effort, adding eight rebounds. Hudgins chipped in nine points and seven boards, and Joe and Tristan Dick each added eight points. Colten Berry led Hendrix with 14 points.
