Tigers Pull Away From 'Roos Late

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College men's basketball team led 49-48 with 10 minutes remaining at Colorado College on Sunday afternoon, but the Tigers used a 21-8 run over the next seven minutes to go on top by double digits and would not look back in an 88-76 decision. The 'Roos are now 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

After the two teams went back and forth throughout the first half of play, the Tigers would take a 32-28 lead into the break. Colorado College came out strong to open the second half, surging ahead 41-31 two minutes in. Austin College responded with a run of its own, outscoring the Tigers 18-6 over the next six minutes to take a 49-47 lead on an Ethan Pearce three pointer at the 12:52 mark. A free throw by the Tigers would make it 49-48, and that would be the score heading under 10 minutes remaining.

However, the Tigers got a three from Scott Ruegg with 9:38 left to go on top 51-49, but Jackson Rennie tied things up on the next trip down for the 'Roos. The teams traded baskets to keep things square at 53 apiece with 8:21 left before the Tigers used a 15-4 run over the next three minutes to push the margin to 68-57 and the 'Roos were unable to get the margin under eight points the rest of the way.

Jordan Hudgins led the 'Roos with 14 points and added four rebounds and three assists, and Kidus Getenet made all three of his three point attempts on his way to 13 points. Joshua Joe chipped in 10 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Pearce and Jason Jones Jr. each scored nine. Nate Williams grabbed a team-best eight boards. Ruegg led all scorers with 25 points for the Tigers.

Austin College is on the road this weekend, heading to Hendrix on December 15 for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
