'Roo Men Top Trinity to Move to 2-0 in SCAC Play

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's basketball team led from start to finish against Trinity University on their way to earning a 60-48 victory, bringing the team's record to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Jeremy Swisher paced the 'Roos with 17 points and seven boards.

After a slow start for both teams, Austin College got on the board first with a bucket from Brian Baehl and the 'Roos quickly extended the lead to 7-0 on a three from Swisher. Aaron Anwary drilled a trey and Swisher scored in the paint as the Austin College grabbed a 14-2 lead with 14:46 left in the opening half. Trinity scored seven in a row to pull within five, but Austin College responded with five straight including a three from Kevin Graham to make it 19-9 with 8:41 on the clock.

Swisher knocked down another three to make it 24-11, and the lead grew to 29-14 on a trifecta from Andres Rivera with 3:10 left in the half. After a basket from Swisher, Trinity would score the final five points of the half to go into the locker room trailing 31-21.

Anwary buried another trey early in the second half to push it to a 34-22 Austin College lead, but Trinity battled back and cut it to a 37-32 game following a three from Brian Blum and a layup by AJ Pulliam with 12:27 left. Four quick points from Baehl made it a 44-35 lead for Austin College, and Swisher hit another three to push the lead back to double-digits at 50-40 with 6:50 showing on the clock.

Trinity was able to trim the lead back to single digits two more times, including on a three from Craig Saltarelli with 36 seconds left to make it a 57-48 game, but Anwary made a free throw and Baehl knocked down two of his own to ice the game.

Swisher knocked down three triples to get his game-high of 17 points, while Baehl finished with 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Austin Freet had a big game for the 'Roos, scoring eight points while grabbing 16 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Pulliam finished with 11 points and six rebounds to lead Trinity, and Blum chipped in 10 for the Tigers in the loss.

Austin College will be looking to make it three in a row when they host Schreiner University tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
