'Roos Drop Road Game at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College football team led for most of the first half on the road at McMurry University, but the War Hawks scored 41 unanswered to close out the game, including 35 second half points, to top the 'Roos 51-13 on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 1-7 overall on the year.

Austin College got on the board early, as Jaylon Talton connected with Dakota Lowery for a 37-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0 just over two minutes into the game. McMurry would even things up eight minutes later, getting a 45-yard run by Corinthean Coleman to get into the redzone and two plays later, Phazzon Washington would score from five yards out to make it a 7-7 game. John Aldridge gave Austin College the lead back at 10-7 with a 36-yard field goal early in the second quarter, but McMurry countered with a field goal of its own on the ensuing possession. 

Aldridge hit on another field goal on the next drive for Austin College, this time from 46 yards out to make it 13-10 with 5:17 left before halftime. However, McMurry responded with an eight-play, 70 yard drive punctuated by a Jack Ishmael touchdown run from five yards out with just over two minutes remaining. The point after attempt failed, making it a 16-13 game at the break. McMurry quarterback Joel Hess would end up throwing four touchdown passes in the second half as McMurry started to pull away, including three in the third quarter to make it 37-13 heading into the game's final 15 minutes.

After Hess threw his final touchdown pass with just over 13 minutes left in the game to make it 44-13, the War Hawks would add another score with 3:37 remaining on a arrison Schlepper touchdown run to finish off a 10-play, 81 yard drive to make it a 51-13 final.

Talton completed 11-of-28 passes for 157 yards with a touchdown and a pick, and added 72 rushing yards on 22 attempts to lead the 'Roos in both yardage categories. Lowery hauled in five passes for 108 yards, while Brady Dygert led the 'Roos defensively with seven tackles. Hess finished the game completing 33-of-46 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns to lead McMurry, and James White had nine tackles for the War Hawks.
