Packard, Stewart Named to 'Roo Football Staff

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College football program has added a pair of former 'Roo standouts, with Nathan Packard and Tre Stewart hired by head coach Loren Dawson to round out this year's coaching staff.

Packard and Stewart were both star defensive players for Austin College, with Packard registering 155 career tackles as an All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference linebacker while Stewart also earned All-SCAC honors as a defensive lineman, making 153 career tackles including 13 sacks and 36 tackles for loss.

Packard joins the staff after having most recently coached outside linebackers at Southwest Minnesota State, and before that he coached linebackers at Battle High School in Columbia, Missouri while earning his master's degree in education from the University of Missouri. Packard also previously worked as an equipment manager for both the Southern Methodist University football team and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Packard will work with the Austin College linebackers.

Stewart joins the coaching staff after serving as the defensive backs coach for Illinois College during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and previously served as a graduate assistant for the Austin College football team while earning his master's degree. While in that role, he worked with the linebackers and defensive backs through spring practice in 2015 and assisted with the program's recruiting efforts.

Stewart will coach the Kangaroo defensive backs.
