Trinity's Big Fourth Quarter Pushes Tigers Past 'Roos

Trinity's Big Fourth Quarter Pushes Tigers Past 'Roos

The Austin College football team was dead even with Trinity through three quarters, but the Tigers erupted for 23 straight in the final frame to hand the 'Roos a 30-7 loss. The 'Roos fall to 3-3 overall with the defeat.

It was a defensive slugfest from the start, with both teams getting into scoring position in the first quarter but neither side able to capitalize due to strong defense, missed opportunities, and ill-timed penalties. Trinity finally got on the board in the second quarter with a two yard touchdown run by Travis Williams with 5:30 left before halftime. The score capped off a 15 play, 68 yard drive that ate up more than eight minutes.

The score remained 7-0 until midway through the third quarter, when Austin College took advantage of a Trinity turnover deep in their own territory. After Jeremy Halford recovered a fumble at the Trinity 12-yard line, Cooper Woodyard found Kyle Mucerino two plays later for a 10 yard score to even things with 6:13 left in the quarter.

However, a 45 yard touchdown pass for the Tigers put Trinity on top 14-7 with 7:19 left, and after Woodyard was picked off on the first play of the ensuing possession with a return down to the Austin College four yard line, the Tigers punched in another score with 6:51 left to play. A 40-yard field goal with 3:23 left made it 24-7, and a 33 yard interception return for a touchdown sealed things with 2:48 remaining.

Austin College was limited to just 102 yards of total offense against a strong Trinity defense, with Woodyard finishing the game completing 10-of-25 passes for 53 yards with a touchdown and three picks. Madison Ross was held to 35 yards on 13 carries, and Brennan Ellis had three receptions for 30 yards. Brooks Ward made 13 tackles to lead the 'Roo defense.
