'Roo Baseball Gets Senior Day Sweep

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team made its Senior Day a memorable one, topping visiting Blackburn College twice to complete a series sweep over the Beavers. The 'Roos took game one 4-0 before coming from behind for a 3-2 walk-off game two victory.

Jonas Ceballos had a career game on the mound to help the 'Roos to the game one victory, tossing a complete game and allowing only three hits while striking out 13 batters against just one walk. Ceballos was locked in from the start, and only allowed a single hit through the first six innings before the Beavers managed to get their final two hits in the last inning, which ended with the final strikeout of the game for the sophomore pitcher.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings before RayShawn Riley put the 'Roos on the board with a sacrifice fly, and Jake Trapani followed with a two-run double to make it a 3-0 game after three innings of action. The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth, when Greg Smith brought the team's final run home with a sacrifice fly. Trapani finished 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead Austin College at the plate.

In game two, the Beavers jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the first, and Blackburn's Andrew Lozano brought home another run in the top of the second to make it a 2-0 game. That was the score until the bottom of the sixth, when Asher Thompson hit a run-scoring single to plate Trapani and cut the margin in half, and in the bottom of the seventh, Ashton Cason came on as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded, walking the team off with a single up the middle to scored Keaton High and Ryan Padfield.

Zack Czarnecky went the distance on the mound for Austin College to earn the win, giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Thompson finished 2-for-3, and Padfield went 2-for-2 to lead the 'Roos. Lozano was 2-for-4 to pace Blackburn.
