This Week in AC Athletics, 3/6 - 3/12

It was a light week in Kangaroo Athletics this week, #RooNation, but what a week it was.  Our Distance Track Team opened their season at UT Tyler and Baseball hosted LeTourneau with a thrilling end to swing momentum in their favor for the month of March.

We have two mid-week road trips, but a plethora of home SCAC competitions this weekend that will kick off Spring Break.

We know you all have great plans, trips, and people with whom to visit over the break, but if you will be around this weekend and next, we hope you will be able to attend and support the ‘Roos in their efforts to chase the Conference Tournament.

In the spirit of keeping you updated on those events, this is your AC Athletics Update!

Distance Track

In their first meet of the year, Austin College Distance Track turned many heads with the results they posted.

On the Women’s Team, Alex Quinn posted the fastest time in Austin College 1500-Meter history at 5:18.3,  good for 4th place overall; 3rd place out of all Collegiate Runners participating in the event!  Madison Galvan and Sarah Jackson finished 13th and 14th respectively in the same event.

The Men’s Team had a record-breaking day as well with Freshman Matthew Gregory setting a new school record with a time of 4:32.8, finishing in 15th place overall.

The ‘Roos will use this positive experience to push them further in their training as they prepare to visit Abilene, TX the weekend after Spring Break.

Baseball

After dropping their first two games against the Yellow Jackets at home, the Baseball Team picked up a win on Saturday evening 9-8 in nine innings against LeTourneau University.

The visitors got out to an early 4-run lead in the 2nd inning, but AC consistently closed the gap by winning or tying every inning for the rest of the game.  When LeTourneau scored two more runs in the 5th, the Kangaroos countered with three of their own.  When the Jackets went scoreless in the 6th, AC tied the game at 7-7.

And when LETU left “ducks on the pond” in the top of the 9th, the ‘Roos loaded the bases and Thomas Oberg singled home Oscar Gonzalez for the walk-off victory.
