Johnson Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo softball player Carrie Johnson.

Johnson, a senior from Sherman, has had an outstanding start to her last season with the Austin College softball program and ranks among the top five in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with 17 runs batted in, in addition to boasting a batting average of .339 and ranking in the top 10 in the conference with five doubles to help the 'Roos to 11 wins to date this year. In addition, she was named as this week's SCAC Female Character & Community Award winner, in recognition of her leadership and service both to the Austin College community and the area as a whole. Johnson, who starts in centerfield for the 'Roos and also pitches for the team, has been a Posey Leadership fellow in addition to an Indigenous Journalists Association fellow. Last year, she also spoke at the Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference, as a member of the Next Generation Panel.

Modern Woodmen of America is proud to recognize and support the ongoing achievements of Austin College student-athletes. Their North Texas Region understands that the pursuit of excellence on and off the field creates a foundation for continued excellence after graduation.
