Thiele Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's swimmer Sammi Thiele.

Thiele, a senior from Keller, earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week recognition after an historic weekend at the Tiger Invitational in San Antonio. Last season, Thiele became the first 'Roo for either the men's or women's team to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship Meet, and thanks to her performance on the campus of Trinity University, she'll have a shot again. Thiele had three different NCAA B-cut qualifying times in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 individual medley. Her time of 55.35 in the 100 back marks the first time in conference history that a women's swimmer has gone under 56 seconds, with Thiele breaking her own SCAC record that earned her a spot in the national meet last season.

Modern Woodmen of America is proud to recognize and support the ongoing achievements of Austin College student-athletes. Their North Texas Region understands that the pursuit of excellence on and off the field creates a foundation for continued excellence after graduation.
