Five From Men's and Women's Basketball Earn CSC Academic All-District

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's basketball player Jason Jones Jr. and women's basketball players Marianna Bert, Sarah Gwin, Megan O'Neil, and Sarah Putnicki have been selected as Academic All-District picks for their outstanding performances both on the court and in the classroom.

The 2023 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.

Jones, a junior forward from Houston, is a double major in Media Studies and Sociology, and earned his Academic All-District recognition with a grade-point-average of 3.53 while averaging 7.4 points and 5.5 rebounds-per-game for the 'Roo men's basketball team.

Bert, a junior guard from Anna, is a Psychology major who was named Academic All-District with a grade-point-average of 3.99, and this season appeared in 19 games for the women's basketball team, including six starts at point guard.

Gwin, a senior guard from San Antonio, earned her spot on the Academic All-District Team with a grade-point-average of 3.83 with a major in Business Administration. This sesaon, she averaged 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists-per-game for the 'Roos.

O'Neil, a junior guard from Irving, is a Business Administration major with a grade-point-average of 3.67, and this season averaged 7.5 points for the 'Roo women's basketball team, and set the SCAC single-game record with 13 made three pointers in a game this year.

Putnicki, a sophomore forward from Gunter, earned Academic All-District with a grade-point-average of 3.75 with a major in Business Administration. This season, she led the 'Roos with an average of 10.4 points-per-game while also averaging 5.9 rebounds.
 
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in March.
