Fall Camp Kicking Off for 2017

Fall Camp Kicking Off for 2017

The fall sports season is here, as Austin College gears up for the 2017-2018 academic year. The 'Roo football team returned to campus last week, and volleyball, soccer, and cross country will all be reporting for camp on August 17.

The Kangaroo football team is already back to the grind, having arrived on August 8 with the first day of practice following a day later. While the Texoma area has been hit hard with storms over the past few days, the Redshirts have still been hard at work in the weight room, team meetings, and in Sid Rich.

The 'Roos open up the season on the road at Bacone College. This year also marks the first as an affiliate member of the Southern Athletic Association for the Austin College football team. Find the full football season schedule HERE.

The Austin College volleyball team returns to the recently re-finished court of Hughey Gym this week, as head coach Ed Garza opens up another season at the helm - his 22nd at Austin College. The 'Roos face a strong schedule this year, with multiple NCAA Division III teams, including SCAC rival Southwestern University, which reached the national semifinals in 2016.

Garza and his team will begin prepping for the season this weekend, and open up the year at home with the Austin College Classic on September 1-2. Check out the full volleyball season schedule HERE.

The Kangaroo men's soccer team will also be opening up camp this weekend, coming off of a strong 2016 campaign that saw them finish 10-9-2 overall and reach the SCAC semifinals. Paced by last year's SCAC Player of the Year runner-up Phillip Le, the 'Roos will be looking to make some more noise in the upcoming season.

Head coach Mark Hudson will be taking his team on the road for the season opening, a match at the University of Texas-Dallas on September 1. You can find the full men's soccer season schedule HERE

The Austin College women's soccer team enters year two under head coach David Sheridan in 2017, and will be looking to build on some strong performances down the stretch last year. With a number of experienced players, including captains Erin Eckart, Sarah Battles, and Anessa Tomblin all returning, the 'Roos will be looking to work their way up the SCAC standings this season.

The 'Roos are on the road to open the year on September 1, heading for an away match at Huston-Tillotson. You can find the full women's soccer season schedule HERE.

Finally, the Kangaroo men's and women's cross country teams will also be reporting to campus this weekend for fall camp after making some tremendous strides in the SCAC in 2016. The women finished 5th at the conference meet, while the men placed 6th. This year, head coach Bryan Garcia returns record-setting runners in both programs.

Both the 'Roo men and women's cross country teams will be opening up the year on September 1, when they head to Tyler for the King Campbell Spectacular hosted by the University of Texas-Tyler. You can find the full men's cross country schedule HERE, and the women's schedule HERE.
