Katie Seibert, a freshman on the 'Roos women's tennis team, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Character and Community Award Winner for the week beginning March 27, 2017.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Seibert may still be relatively new to Austin College, but the first year isn’t wasting any time getting involved within both the Austin College and surrounding community. Of course, community service and volunteer work is nothing new to the Medina, Texas native.

Seibert has been actively involved with Meals on Wheels for the past two years, spending time both this past December as well as the summer before enrolling at Austin College working with the organization. Over the course of her time working with Meals on Wheels, Seibert helped deliver food to those in need, both elderly and underprivileged.

She’s also spent plenty of time giving back to both the young and the old, visiting Hilltop Nursing Home to participate in caroling and Christmas ministry, while also having served as the volunteer coordinator in the Hill Country Home School Association Nursery.

Seibert was also an active participant in Austin College’s Great Day of Service in October. Each year, members of the Austin College community reach out and give back as part of Great Day of Service, with Seibert getting involved in an effort to build wheelchair ramps. For Seibert, it was a way to both reach out and get to know the local community while also providing much needed assistance.
