Women's Water Polo Drops Four in California

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Austin College women's water polo team dropped its four games over the weekend at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara, as the 'Roos squared off against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents and two NCAA Division II foes.

The 'Roos fell 25-1 in their weekend opener against DI opponent San Jose State on Saturday, with Bianca Gallegos scoring the team's lone goal as Austin College found itself trailing 8-0 after the opening quarter and 12-0 at halftime. San Jose State went on top 18-0 heading into the fourth, before Gallegos got the team on the board in the final frame to make it a 25-1 final. Emily Engberson had five steals and three saves while tending goal for the 'Roos.

Austin College took on the host school, Division I team Santa Clara, in their second game on Saturday, falling 14-6. It was a 5-1 game after the opening quarter and 8-2 at halftime before the 'Roos used a three-goal third quarter to make it 11-5 heading into the fourth, where Santa Clara pulled away by out-scoring Austin College 3-1 in the closing period. Alyssa Ross and Ashley Chand each scored twice for the 'Roos, and Kylee Noble and Cory McGrath each tallied once while Noble added a pair of assists. Engberson had nine saves in the game for Austin College.

The 'Roos wrapped up their weekend trip with a pair of games against Division II schools on Sunday, dropping a 15-7 game to Cal State East Bay and then falling 11-3 to Cal State Monterey Bay. Against East Bay, Chand tallied three goals and Gallegos found the back of the cage twice, with Joslyn Dimitri and McGrath both scoring once. In the team's final game of the weekend, Noble scored twice and McKenna Malone got on the scoreboard with a goal as well, while Ashley Easley had three saves and two steals in goal for the 'Roos.
